Smart Toilet Pre-Installation: The Golden Rules for Electrical and Plumbing Layout
For an ideal smart toilet setup, both the electrical outlet (GFCI) and the water shut-off valve should be positioned 15 to 20 cm (6 to 8 inches) to either the left or right side of the toilet base. The outlet should be installed approximately 30 cm above the floor to prevent water splashes. This specific placement ensures that you have a clear line of sight and enough manual clearance to plug in the device, reach the emergency shut-off, and regularly maintain the system.

The Myth: "Hiding everything behind the toilet looks better."
Many homeowners mistakenly hide the outlet and valve directly behind the porcelain body for a "seamless" look. This is a critical error.
First, the narrow gap makes it nearly impossible to unplug the power cord or operate the valve without dismounting the entire heavy toilet.
Second, and more importantly, smart toilets contain high-precision electronic components. If the valve is hidden, you will likely neglect the built-in filter screen. When sand, silt, or pipe debris clog the filter and enter the internal system, it leads to catastrophic failures.

Because the valve’s filter screen is designed to be cleaned regularly, hiding it leads to total neglect. Once sediment bypasses a clogged or damaged filter, your smart toilet will suffer from leaking nozzles, continuous flushing at the rim, or total heating failure. These precision parts are sensitive to water impurities. By keeping the valve accessible, you ensure a simple 5-minute cleaning task doesn't turn into an expensive repair bill.
